Sotogrande

The discreet playground of the south, where polo, golf and the sea set the rhythm of the day.

Tucked between the Mediterranean and the cork-oak hills of Cádiz, Sotogrande is southern Spain's most understated address. Conceived in 1962 as a private residential resort, it has spent six decades perfecting a single idea: luxury that never raises its voice. No neon, no crowds, just space, sea air, and the quiet confidence of a place with nothing to prove.

What to Do

The Sotogrande life

World-class chukkas

Polo & Equestrian

World-class chukkas

Sotogrande is one of Europe's great polo capitals. Through the summer, the fields of Santa María Polo Club thunder with international tournaments that draw the world's finest players, and a glamorous crowd to match. Beyond the high-goal season, the area is a haven for dressage, show-jumping and dawn rides through the cork-oak hills.

Fairways of legend

Golf

Fairways of legend

This is the cradle of Spanish golf. Real Club Valderrama, host of the 1997 Ryder Cup, sits minutes from Real Club de Golf Sotogrande, Robert Trent Jones's first European course, and the contemporary La Reserva Club. Few corners of Europe pack so much championship golf into so few square kilometres.

Life by the water

The Marina

Life by the water

The marina is Sotogrande's open-air living room, a lattice of waterways lined with sailing yachts, tapas terraces and ice-cold rosé. Mornings begin with coffee on the quay and the smell of salt; evenings drift into long seafood dinners as the masts sway and the sky turns rose-gold.

Beaches & La Reserva

Sun, sand & lagoon

Wide, breezy beaches run along the coast, anchored by chic clubs such as Trocadero. Rarer still is The Beach at La Reserva Club, a man-made lagoon ringed with white sand, loungers and full service, a crystalline oasis just a swing from the fairways.
